I dunno...looks to me like he hooked the 3 wire. Seems to be a mechanical malfunction, not PE.

Ahh Jack, If that pilot walked away then it WAS a good landing!

Looks just like the same result as the guy in the Hellcat video. Aren't they all supposed to land that way ?

Well, it's probably easier to stack it below deck now anyway.

Maybe that guy and the hellcat guy had the same flight instructor when learning carrier landings.

The pilot might be ok, but that poor gunner might not have made it.

I think I can figure out that pilot's next few hours:
- Consume liquor
- Write strongly-worded letter of disapproval to Curtiss
- Transfer to VT or VF

Doesn't look like it separated at a production break?

I've noticed that the SB2C's always seem to fold at the gunner's position and in some of the other crash videos up in the front also, both places where the crew sit (view some of the crash footage on Youtube) after they hit the barriers....NOT a plane I would want to carrier crash in if I was sitting in one....

Judging by the deck gang running up from aft and the direction the Stokes crew is heading I suspect he's laying out in the middle of the flight deck somewhere.
Not a good sign.

Hmm - looking at the image and having flown the CAF SB2C for several years, it could be that he came in with the gear up or not fully locked down and it collapsed after catching a wire, causing the nose to slam down and the prop to pull the nose to the right as seen. It looks like I can see the gear down indicator "posts" up on the left wing in the image which suggests the gear was down but not sure and they may be something else.
As noted in other posts, the Helldiver tended to come apart about where you see it has in this image just ahead of the gunner's seat when crashed.

Well - after a second look, I think the gear was up when the trapped or collapsed fully which is odd since it is so massive - what I thought was a gear down post now looks like the front (and back) wing lock flags being pushed up due to the crash. My 2 cents.

My question is "What's with the Bee Keepers?"
