This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

For a long time this board has been one my favorite internet sites. Where else can someone like myself who lives for aviation and loves warbirds can go and interact with others who feel the same way worldwide! With all things there are good and bad but unfortunately there's been more bad than good lately. I'm tired of people hiding behind nicknames while putting down other people and telling them to leave. I my book that's cowardly. We're all part of the free world right? Rob, can post has much has he likes because this is America and many fine men and women have died to give him that right and no one can take it away. If you don't like it don't read it. I've noticed that Rob does more than post, he involved and doesn't sit on his hands and complain like a lot of others do on this board.
Brad and I have been friends for a long time and he's flown with us more than once. He's also a doer. A person more involved in the hands on aspect of warbirds would be hard to find. I hope he comes back to the board has he is also huge asset to this group and I respect what he has to say. What these 2 have in common is that they use there real name when posting. I think any person using this board should be required to use the actual name or at least register with Scott so the bad apples can be dealt with. Posts by unknowns ie guests should be deleated. Everyone here has something positive to contribute. So let them.
So endeth the sermon.....................

Well said, Jack, I second your comments. I don't understand why the trolls have been given so much acknowledgement. Just lets control our immediate emotions, ignore their posts, and they will fade away. Bullies hate being ignored... they have such tiny egos under all of the bluster.
Cheers,
Richard

Hi Jack
Totally agree with all of you post - well said we can't afford to lose our long term doers and small minds can't be allowed to dominate.

Well said Jack, I wish it wasn't necessary but I have instituted a few changes. It's now necessary to be registered to post. I will be going through the forum and cleaning out offensive material. I hope some of those that have left will lurk for awhile and give the forums a chance to purge the negative element.

Scott
Thanks for your post.
I will be happy to abide by any changes you make and I hope also that we can entice any past members back. Sorry about my problem with logging on but as you can see I have fixed it now.
I appologise for getting involved in the argument at times - I should know better.
Kindest regards
and support

Very well put Jack and Scott, I couldn't agree more.
As I watched page after page build with hidden identities, while others were willing to put they're names up, I hate to see some of the good board participants leave. I too hope to see some of the others return, that used to post.

Having been out of touch for the last couple of days, I do not know what has been happening here.
I favor the use of a person's real name. I use mine, because I stand behind my opinions -good or bad- and I do not need to hide behind a nickname or a proxy in order to say anything to anyone.
It has been my experience here, and also in other boards, that people tend to say the nastiest things because they feel that the anonymity of a nickname provides them with the testicular fortitude that otherwise they would not have.
To Scott: Do whatever it takes. To Rob: 100% behind you, bro. To Brad: 100% and then some, you are putting your life on the line -this is not kissing up- I do Appreciate your service to our country, MexicanBob.
Let's keep talking airplanes, people! That's what we like. If you disagree with something, fine, the world will not change because you are right and I am wrong. I still have to get up the next day and go to work, the same way I did the day before, and I will probably continue doing for a long time.
End of mini-rant.
Saludos,
Tulio

Speaking personally I've never needed to hide behind my nom de plume to have the "testicular fortitude" to state my opinions anywhere. However Tulio's point is well taken as I have noticed the same sort behavior he has in the year and a half I have been online. I do however find it a tad disturbing that those of us who do use nicknames are being painted with a fairly broad brush because of recent events on the board. It makes me sick that Scott has been forced into taking the course of action he has, but I also feel that he was backed into a corner and had no other choice since things were obviously getting worse rather than better.
Those of us who use nicknames do so most generally because the name holds some sort of personal meaning, be it deeply emotional or just cause we think it's cute (I fall between emotional and cute

).
And don't let the fact that my full name appears in my sig line fool you. It was
not always there. I only put that up after I spent a fantastic Saturday in southern New Hampshire with a bunch of just plane crazy folks.
End of mini rant rebuttal
NOW SOUND OFF LIKE YOU'VE GOT A PAIR

Hi Warhawk,
The majority with nicknames have been very good, and decent on the board, and it wasn't meant to be directed at the majority of you guys. The regulars here have also usually caught your actual names somewhere down the road or had off the board contact with you guys. As you mentioned yourself, unfortunately attacks and some fierce bad mouthing of others has come along in recent times, and those are the people that should be signing their names, when they do use a nickname, rather than hide behind a name they can dump and reregister later as someone else, and do it all over again. I too havenoticed the loss of some good registars, that I don't see anymore.

OK, a couple of footnotes...
Thanks for the thread. I'm here because of those who've got something to contribute, and a discussion conducted with respect and some manners. I don't expect everyone to agree - I certainly don't all the time - but there's always the oportunity to learn.
Folks like Brad get my vote because there's a thoughtful opinion - I'd rather you stay, old boy, rather than go, for what it's worth.
Those who have mud to throw show their true colours - it's no point in getting embroiled, just pay attention to what you respect, IMHO, ignore the muck, it's easier.
Um, Jack, this isn't 'America' about half the posters here are from 'the rest of the world' - but wait! this isn't an anti-American comment, just a footnote. I'd rather think of us being members of the 'world of Warbirds'
That's not very articulate, but just a couple of points I feel worth maaking. Back to the discussions of old airplane facts...
Cheers!

I never thought it was Roger. However, reading down throught he posts I thought that it could be interpreted that way so I felt I had to say something. Then, as usual, I got caught up in what I was saying and probably said too much. I've seen these same sorts of discussions on other boards where trolls came in and started problems that the webmaster then had to come in and "fix". Once the "fix" was made then the debate over nicknames vs. real names starts. The offshoot of that is more feelings get hurt and posters leave because, right or wrong, they feel they are no longer welcome.
I like this board and the people I have met here too much to let that happen. I'm not a pilot, or restorer. I'm not anything related to aviation at all. I carry the title of WIX motor pool officer for that reason I'm sure (please don't change it Scott). I have, however, been accepted into this online aviation community and I hope that the recent unpleasantness can be put behind us so we can get back to whats important.
WARBIRDS
Well, I've gone off on a tangent again (thank you soooooooo much Roger

) so I'll get off now and let someone else have a turn.

James, I realize this board has international participation and has I pointed out in my post that's one of it's very positive attributes. I used the 'America' expression simply because this board originates in the USA and the main person being attacked is an American. No offense to our friends form the north, south, east or west was intended.

Most everybody has been pretty reasonable on this discussion board. What really bothered me was when I posted the topic "Guam P-47s" was; it had a really good response, but some characters with nothing else useful to do turned it into a put down contest. All of the good information generated by that topic was thrown out, because of these characters. I have a lot of information, but will be reluctant to share it on this site if this happens again. With that said, this site is very good, but a few choose to nearly ruin it.
