B-17G s/n 42-31684 463rd BG 774th BS "Joker" shot down Jul 7, 1944.over Vicany, Germany.

My late dad was copilot with the 463rd...at the very end of the war.
His squadron was the 774th (the one with yellow rudder & trim).
We still have his A-2 with the "Swoose Group"" Patch and a hand-typed checklist in the pocket, laminated with two thin sheets of plastic stapled together (the staples are now very rusty).

don't you mean the 447th bomb group?? they had the yellow most distinctly.

No, he means the 463rd BG which had a yellow rudder has a sqd marking.
The 463rd was called the 'Swoose Group' because the group CO was Col Frank Kurtz former pilot of the B-17D "The Swoose".
