Italian/german airbases of ww2 overtaken by the americans

was talking to an old friend today who mentioned he knew of a base originally operated by the Germans and then overrun by the americans in the war. It was a base in Italy(the name he's searching for)my question is; do any of you wixers know where I can find a list of Italian/german air bases/fields during the war? I'm doing some research on my own just looking for some leads, he mentioned it was by a fresh water lake too...thanks...
