North African Campaign Aircraft

Mon Nov 19, 2007 12:42 pm

There is a North African Campaign model group build about to kick off in the WIX model forum.

The Desert War was in full swing from June 10, 1940 to May 16, 1943

To help all who might want to participate decide on a subject to model or multiple subjects I was wondering if someone here could list all types and models of aircraft used by all sides during this campaign.

Thanks

Any of you remember a warbird movie about a B-24 that crashed during the war and most of the crew was lost. Found by someone, the only survior was the Nav who bailed out at sea. The bird is haunted by the dead crew members untill there bodies were found.

I can't remember the title, but is was a good show.

Jet,

You may be thinking of 'Sole Survivor', a 70's TV movie loosely based on the story of the 'Lady Be Good', which actually had no survivors.

Hey man, just try'n to help a brutha out :D

Back to the topic:

I was looking to see if any P-39/P-400 Airacobras were operated in North Africa. I find some obscure references to them being operated by the 12th Air Force but can't find any squadrons that actually used then in theater?

Anyone know?

Shay, I was on a web page for camo paint schemes, and it listed the 93rd FS, 81st FG out of Tunisia, I believe they had P-39's.

Hope it helps. I had the same thought.
