Here's a couple shots of Larry Blumer's P-38J from the 367th FG. Any good shots of the P-38L he owned in the 70s that Ward Clemmo flew???

I would love to see someone put that type of nose art on an airplane nowadays. It would be authentic, plus it would show that "political correctness" was alive and well even back in the old days (even though I understand it was just a handful of Generals, or their wives, that came up with the "CENSORED" banners).

Did you guys ever hear of the B-29 outfit that got into trouble for having naked girls on their airplanes? Some General was coming to a base and saw that airplanes, and told the C.O. that he was coming back in a week with his wife, and he didn't want to see the nude girls. The crews all painted bathing suits on the girls, but used water based paint. The first rain they flew through took the bathing suits right off.

73rd Bombardment Wing (VH), consisting of the 497th, 498th, 499th, and 500th Bomb Groups. Nose art was replaced by the "barb and ball" on the left side of the airplane and "approved" art on the right side. This occurred in April of '45. Caused a stink, too!!
