This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

I'm pretty sure the stabilizers and wings don't come apart like that unless you use a saw
I hope it found a home and isn't being trucked to scrapper's yard.

It's definitely been cut in critical areas.

Would it not have been better to face the phantom forwards instead of backwards?

If they cut the wings off do you think they were actually using there heads?
=D

You tow an aircraft backwards so that there is no lift on any of the surfaces. Even thought the wings are off of it, the elevators could have been banging around. This looks like it is going to be a nice static display somewhere.

I don't see how its going to be a nice static anywhere. Once cut, it's very hard if not nearly impossible to structurally splice the wing so that it could stand on its own legs. Looks like the vertical has been cut as well as the stab. BTW those aren't elevators they are a two piece stabilator that is actuated by a single ram mounted in the tail. The stab was most likely cut because of highway restrictions on width.

I can't really tell if it's cut, but the New England Air Museum removed the wings from their A model Phantom with out cutting, back in the 1980's. It's just a bear to get em back together. I think you need a jig, and that's why the aircraft was eventually traded away once a Mig Killer F-4 was obtained.

I guess we will have to wait and see. Hey Rick, what kind of metal is the exhaust area made out of on a Phantom?

Titanium, and other high heat metals.
Trust me, it's cut, the wings don't come off that way. There's no break in the wing at the location shown in the photos. The stab is cut too.

I trust you Rick, I wonder what they are going to do with it? And thanks for answering my question on the metal. I new it was a different type of metal, just wasn't sure what.

Cockpit display would be the best hope at this point...

I'm surprised! That F-4 cant be reconstructed to make a nice static one?
Wasn't the MAPS F-4 delivered in the same fashion?

P51Mstg- all I have is a dumb question: which monster truck were you riding around in to get such a high vantage point for those pics?
