Young men in harm's way

Sat Nov 17, 2007 11:12 pm

I had many new and exciting experiences two weekends ago on my first B-17 flight to an airshow. Like flying in a B-17.... It would be real easy for me to get a big head over the VIP treatment that the USAF gave us but a real sobering thought hit me that Sunday morning.
Lackland AFB had had basic training graduation that weekend. Sunday a.m. a group of REAL young looking airmen (graduates) came by to visit the Thunderbird. A pleasant and friendly bunch some of them didn't look old enought to shave. Then the light bulb came on.....they're just like the guys who flew into harm's way with the Greatest Generation. When I had somewhat collectec myself I made sure I told them '"thank you for serving."
