We are hoping that someone can assist the armyairforces.com forum in the search for relatives of a B-17 Tail Gunner Sgt. Leegrand Koller, KIA on March 2 1942.

This is an incredible story regarding a class ring that was found in Austria at the site of his plane crash. It is hoped that this ring can be returned to his relatives.

Sgt. Koller was from Paradise, PA. Please refer to the attached message regarding this request.

Perhaps I'm way off base here, but doesn't March of 1942 seem a bit early for a B-17 to be crashing in Austria? Weren't the first American bombers over Europe the HALPRO B-24's in June, 1942?

I think its a typo, I believe it refers to a mid-air collision in 1945.
