I'm curious if that light blue color is part of an authentic paint scheme?

Before anyone asks, I'm OK with it regardless, I just don't remember ever seeing a photo of that scheme in color before.

Yes.
Everett Stewart's P-51D "Sunny VII" had the powder blue anti-glare very late war. Maybe more............

Although I'm kinda bord with 4th FG painted Mustangs, this is the exception. I always loved seeing photos of the late Max Hoffman's "Boomer" from the late 70s, and really enjoyed seeing Hoffman's second 51 in the same colors while in France up until some years ago. Sad to see that one being repainted, especially since they did such a sloppy job on it. "Boomer" on the other hand was actually one of my favourites at GML, along with Ed Lindsay's Cavalier.
