Any truely unique F4U-1 or FG1-D paint schemes? ....

Sun Oct 21, 2007 3:18 pm

Found some good P-51 schemes, but now I'm looking for some really cool Corsair schemes from WW2 era. I've seen most, but I know you guys have some I've never seen before.

Also I'm looking for USS Franklin F6F Hellcat squadron markings. October 1944. I can't seem to locate any books or photos that really show much.

There was one that was built up by a squadron from wreaks in the Pacific theater during the war that was natural metal. There are photos of it.
Very different.

Its kind of fun to work on when I get time....between working on the P-8A Poseidon and being a Navy guy on weekends (plus many more days).

Making the first profile is difficult....each one after is easy.

I'll do a Franklin Corsair. Do you know what your Dad's plane looked like? Aircraft and BuNos?

My friend Jim Schiller flew F4U-1D #5 with VF-5 on the
Frankilin. He scored his 5th kill the day before she was hit.
Jim was on the flight deck and was blown off into the sea but
fortunately was rescued by a DD.

I have a chest full of my Dad's war photos to go through. I haven't had too much time to go through all his stuff, but he does have some great photo albums. I will be very happy to send you photos when I get then out. thank you very much.
