In '92 I flew a Cessna 195 from Chino to Oshkosh and back. Average price was $2.00/gallon for the entire trip as I recall.

In the mid '70s when I started working at my dad's little place, I think it was around 50 cents there. And that was real, 100/130, the green stuff. In the late '70s, we relocated & ISTR it was in the 60 - 70 cents range. I do remember it was the summer of '79 when we broke $1. I can remember price changes coming in the mail then, every Monday or so, & it was increasing a nickel a week. Then, by the early '90s, we were up to $2. I think by '02 we were at $3 & in '05 we were at $4. I remember after Katrina, for just about 2 weeks, we were $5. Now, due to the airport board taking over the FBO, we're back to $3.75, which is still cheap.

Even at that price , it seems cheap compared to our auto gas here in the UK which is currently £0.95 per ltr. which works out at $7.00 per US Gal.

I've been flying since 1987, and always paid a "wet" rate so I wasn't always in tune with the pump price.

In '87 a Piper Tomohawk went for $55/hr (wet=includes fuel) per hobbs hour. The Warrior and C-172 went for $63/hr to $65/hr depending on the installed nav equipment.

Today a late model ('01-'06) 172 goes for $135 hour while the 80's vintage goes for $115/hr.

Our CH2T Alaruses which are '04 models are relatively economic at $95/hr. The instructor goes for $40/hr compared to $20/hr in '87.
