This is the place where the majority of the warbird (aircraft that have survived military service) discussions will take place. Specialized forums may be added in the new future

Looking for a Mustang paint scheme that no current Mustang wears right now. Military paint scheme's only from WW2. Something that really looks cool.

Hands down the best paint scheme available. Yellow undersides and lots of flash from the polished uppers...besides imagine all the fun you will have with the self righteous airshow rubes! If I had the money to build a 2 seat like Max Chapman, a razorback would be stunning as a 2 seater in this scheme!
Martin, What serial was this bird...?

Also why so many dang WW II schemes? Why not one of the many deserving 18FBG Korean war examples? The Korean war was very hard on the Mustang, and its poorly represented today.
Still, a Lufwaffe Mustang would be awesome.....

Brian who posts as Waltz41 on here, has done a ton of research on PTO mustangs from WWII. he has a ton of great ideas.

I'm fond of Tex Hill's P-51 "Bullfrog" scheme myself. I think Jack Cook posted a pic of it not too long ago. I'd love to see someone with the guts to paint their Mustang with a weathered war-weary look...

Zack,
I'm with you 100%. I've always felt the next step in an authentic restoration would be a "War Weary" look.

This one from the Iwo Jima based 457th FS, 506th FG
It's the perfect name for the P51

What about the Philippine Air Force schemes?
Pics anyone?

At GML, there was definitely a shortage of Pacific Theater and allied service paint schemes. The all metal 1950's Air National Guard or A.F. paint scheme is really georgeous. polished aluminum where most currently have invasion stripes is actually quite attractive.

Enchantress is awesome. It is true there is a glut of Pacific and Korean schemes. The Ohio ANG schemes were pretty cool too

If there was another two seat B/C model then "stars look down" would be very cool too

Why not something totally different? Why a US marking? Why not an RAF marking like the one below.
