Brig. Gen. David Lee"Tex" Hill

Thu Oct 11, 2007 7:37 pm

From the Hill family.

This is Reagan, Shannon's son (Tex's grandson).
I'm sorry to report that Tex passed away in his home in San Antonio at exactly 5pm Central time on Thursday. He was neither in pain nor discomfort at the end, and Shannon, Lola, and Mazie were at his side. Referring to the time of his passing, Mom told me, "tell his friends on the forum it was just like Tex
to go out with a "high 5!"

Pappy, to say you'll be missed doesn't even begin to describe it. You're a hero to all of us. A loving family and a grateful nation thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. Rest in your Father's arms, and well deserved.

Reagan

To many, he defined the word "Hero", and will go down in history as one of the bravest fighter pilots to grace the skies. Condolences to the Hill family and may God be with them during these trying times. Godspeed "Tex" , you will be missed.

Tex Hill's passing away earlier today is truly a great loss for America.
He was a great hero to myself and a lot of young young kids growing up. Some lucky people meet their heros when they are older. I was fortunate to meet Tex when I was 14. Rest in peace Tex and thank you :!:

Happy landings Tex, just like you checking out at 1700 for a little nip of scotch with your friends. Someday we will all meet up there for a happy hour toddy.
Plans are for services in San Antonio, with a large memorial service to follow in about a week at Ft. Sam National Cemetary with fly overs.

Hero and legend...

Truly the kind of man, husband, and father the rest of us would like to measure up to.

Sincere condolences to family and friends.

Tex approached me at Airsho 2005 and proceded with a good war story. Before I new it there were about 20 others gathered around. Tex was kind (as always) to get our picture taken together in front of the P-40. I thought that next time I'll video tape his always great story. I can tell you I'll never assume there is a next time with these great men.

Godspeed Tex!

I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago....

It was quite memorable and he was a very interesting character! It was an honor to meet and talk with him and I cherish that as one of the finer points in my aviation life..
