ID request: C-47 at San Angelo – Mathis Field

Tue Oct 09, 2007 10:59 am

This is my first post on this excellent forum so I hope someone can help me out!
In January of 2005 I saw a C-47(?) missing its outer wings sitting at Mathis Field near San Angelo. Does anyone have a clue about its ID?

I normally keep logs of whatever (ex) military aircraft I see and this is one of the many gaps in my logs, hope someone can assist!

Many thanks in advance,

Koen

In 2005, it was probably the EC-47 that's now on display in front of base HQ at Goodfellow AFB. A few pics (before and after assembly) are at:

Thanks for the reply! I did visit Goodfellow in the same period and did not see a C-47 on display there. I also visited Cressen where the Goodfellow aircraft was supposed to originate from and did not see a C-47 there either.
Wonder if it was indeed the EC-47 then. As far as I remember it had a light coloured scheme and I couldn't note any serial/registration on it from outside the airfield.

I do believe it was painted in its current color scheme out at Mathis, (excuse me - San Angelo Regional Airport, to make it fancy! )
but by who I can't say.

'Bout time the base got a SIGINT bird! (Not like that Johnny-come-lately RF-4!)
