I know this isn't the intention but it's sort of morbid the way people leap into their fire trucks, lights a flashin, horns a blarin to report the demise of some old guy before his family even knows. Or before HE knows, as seems to be the case with Tex Hill. Couldn't we show some restraint and let it go a day or so?

I agree. It can never hurt to always wait for an "official" word...

It appears that John's post might have been in error, but that is no reason to pile on him. First, he understood that he passed away yesterday, so he wasn't running to be the first to post it. Second, you may not be aware, but John was a friend of Hill's and was very active in the American Fighter Aces because is own father was a fighter ace in the Pacific. He is not the type to go around trying to be first to break any news.

right. Always apologize when it is pointed out you're being a jerk. John, I am sorry if I seem to have jumped at your posting, obviously you were passing out word of personal importance. But your post was really just the one that finally pushed me to post my own comment-it always seems like we're a bunch of ambulance chasers or something. Letting it rest for a bit as you did is certainly the decent way to go. You just got caught up by a bad source. I always apreciated the fact that the military doesn't release names until they have solid confirmation about a servicemembers death. Keep the family from being shocked. Regardless, I'm glad for Tex hill and his family and friends that he's still plugging along. Again, I apologize if I was rude.
