B29 Doc update

Not sure how true it is but I read a small article in one of the magazines that said Doc is witing for the hangar to be completed and then she will be going under cover in a month or so! ANyone heard anything?

We were in Wichita a couple of weeks ago and there is no evidence of hangar construction at the museum. If it is to be one of the temporary "tent" enclosures it won't take long to set up, though. We didn't talk to anyone--the museum was closed for the day when we got there.

I was in Wichita up until last night; went by the Kansas Aviation Museum a couple of times, and other than having seen Doc in a fenced out area outside the museum, there were no news (and I asked) about the plans for it.


With my apologies, this is not an attempt to hijack this thread:

Of notice, the B-47 that used to be at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in OK City, is now at the Kansas Aviation Museum, awaiting re-assembly.

Since I was last at this museum in 2001, a KC-135, a 727, a 737 and a Beech Starship have been added, and the cache of B-29 parts that they used to have stored outside, is gone. The B-52 has beeen moved too, to a location closer to the old Terminal.

An F-84 that is there now, looks nice, and I don't recall having seen it before.

Looks like this is why Boeing took the hangar back:

The first B-52 aircraft to undergo Combat Network Communications Technology modification (CONECT) arrived last month at Boeing's Wichita, Kan., facility. This is the first time in four years that a B-52 has been modified in Wichita.
