I came across a wooden box, finely finished, and lined with velour, holding 5 aluminum pieces of the same length, but of increasing thickness; the only information on the bos says:
B-17
B-29
B-47
B-52
Saturn V
The B-17 aluminum piece is very thin, while the Saturn V piece is probably three or four inches thick.
Evidently a "sampler" of different types of aluminum used to built the aircraft and rocket listed above, but . . . is this a unique example? Would seem to me that there would be more than one made, but there is no other information available to me.

Maybe presented for a retirement of someone who worked on those projects for Boeing or perhaps a supplier?

Tom or BDK,
I have three pictures of the box and the contents, but would one of you please upload them for me?

Thank you, BDK. I had e-mailed them earlier to Tom.
Anyone interested in a WW-II era U.S. Navy Drift Sight by Waltham? The antique shop has one, and I believe (not 100% sure) that the price is around $125.00

tulio, i checked out the pics. item looks to be some sort of template for gauging metal thickness. while not appealing as eye candy, i'd say you picked up a historically significant piece that probably came from a boeing employee's estate after passing on & it was sold to an antique dealer.

If it is a retirement gift, the thickness of each piece might reflect the money expended on each project
Just joking, (I think!) would like to see it as anything of that nature is a rare find indeed!
Enjoy the Day! Mark

Got that e-mail thing fixed now Tulio, sorry 'bout that!
Here they are:
In my opinion that is some kind of presentation piece. If that was a working tool it would have a tool control number and would have to be periodically recertified or calibrated so you would see some dated stamps or tags on it. I also doubt that a working tool would use blue velour in the box!
As a presentation piece though it doesn't have much information on it. For a presentation piece you typically want something that someone else can see and learn something about the company that presented it- kind of a publicity vehicle.
Very odd! Hope you can figure out what it was made for! There must be a good story behind it. Someone spent a lot of time making it obviously and it displays excellent craftsmanship.
