Judging from the terrain and the nose number, I'd bet that is a crew trainer that hasn't had any base codes applied. Possibly stationed at Clovis or Pyote? Great photograph of a beautiful airplane!

The B-29 in Paul's photo was assigned to Buckingham AAF, Florida, which would make it a gunnery trainer.

Ironically, yet unrelated, FIFI had the number 31 on it (it's tail) when the CAF obtained it from China Lake, back in 1971.
Just some useless trivia.
