I guess it's not a bad start for a restoration. Maybe a little better than the "Claude."

I've seen the airplane in person, on display at Frontiers of Flight a couple of months ago, and at its former home at Grayson County Airport several years ago. The pix do not do it justice! What a beauty!

Cheers!

She was still sitting at Love Field last week...a nice looking airplane...on the outside...I have no clue what she's like under the skin.

Would be cool to see flying.

F-86L

This is the F-86L that is still shown on Randy Ball's "FighterJets" website as "undergoing restoration for a first flight sometime in late 2006." Obviously this part of the website has not been updated for a long time.

I hope that someone who really has the means to turn this beauty into a flying aircraft eventually will purchase it. I know there are complications with this aircraft that do not exist with the Canadair bulit Sabres, F-86Fs, etc., that are out there. Also I think that the statement that the difference between the F-86D vs. the F-86L is the afterburner is not correct. I believe that F-86Ds had afterburners also. I thing the extended wings and the SAGE Data-Link equipment added were the differences between the D and L.

I am not aware that any F-86D/L aircrft have flown since the last foreign operators may have retired them perhaps 35 to 40 years ago?? I don't believe any U.S. operators have flown an F-86L since the Air National Guard retired their last ones in early 1965. But I am not absolutely sure about the last time this particular "Sabre Dog" or any other one may have actually flown.

I really would like to see a flying example of the F-86D or L someday....

Would that be awesome to see a formation flight of a T-33, F-86, F-86L, and FJ Fury go by! The Sabre has always been one of my favorite jets. I don't know how many of you out there turn a wrench for a living, but back in the day when I used to work on a Sabreliner 60 (NA65) you would not believe how much similarity was in two airplanes. I was told that some of the same P/N's were used on both aircraft but I could never verify it in any of my dealings on the Sabreliner. I sure hope it goes to a good home were future of flight could be possible.
