when I opened this thread your photo was so big all I got was the sky! Then I wheeled down and there was a B24 so I smiled. Then I (mostly by accident) hit that big gaggle of birds coming in together and knew I had found my new background! Awesome photo!

that's a neutrality flag, pre war prior to u.s. involvment. pretty common in the aircorp / navy, & used on the pan am airline clippers, as well amongst other u.s. airline planes operating on overseas routes. the philosphy was that it would keep our at the time friendly planes from being accidently shot down.

Quite a mixed bag. Along with the biplanes across the field notice the F4Fs behind the A-20s.

Wow, good eyes. I was thinking P-47 at first but the wing is too high.

The planes with the white crosses are Douglas A-24's, this could have been taken during the big pre-war Lousiana war games circa 1941 or so.

I've seen that shot before and I believe you're right.
It's the "White" force the other team used Red crosses (the "Red" force).

The location is Raleigh, North Carolina and this was indeed taken during maneuvers in 1941. The A-20s are from
the 3rd BG. (Possibly still the 3rd AG at this time, but I dunno for sure.)

I have a print of this photo in my collection (albeit non original) and hope to add an original print of an aerial view
of the same scene in the near future. (minus the 'roaring 20s' and Wildcats)
