Vintage Wings of Canada (VWC) is thrilled to announce the upcoming arrival of yet another aircraft to the collection. VWC has acquired the FG-1D Corsair BuNo 92106 c/r N106FG. This bent-wing-bird was formerly owned by Mr. Gary Kohs and was restored by Airpower Unlimited. The restoration took over 11 years and consumed 20,000 man hours. The interior, finish and equipment, is as original as it can be and Airpower’s work has produced what is considered to be one of the finest Corsair restorations in existence. The crew of VWC is excited about this acquisition and look forward to the arrival which should take place prior to the final open house of the season on September 1st.

VWC currently has Corsair F4U-4 BuNo 97359 c/r N240CA in its collection. This aircraft, which has made a number of appearances at air shows this season, including Oshkosh, is expected to be sold to a new owner in the future.

VWC’s new FG-1D is currently painted with the factory markings of a Corsair as delivered by the manufacturer, Goodyear. It is likely that the aircraft will be repainted in the future to commemorate one of the many heroic Canadian pilots who flew the Corsair with the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm during World War II. This will support the primary mission of VWC, to use its collection to illustrate some of the great stories of Canadian aviation heritage. Timing and other details have not yet been decided.

Thanks for the information Mike. What an acquisition! Can't wait too see that one in what I think will be the colours of Robert Hampton Gray, VC,DSC.

I agree with Mike. That plane has a SUPERB paint job on it now. Simple, you don't get tired of it, and it is technically one of the nicest paint jobs I've ever seen. It would be hard to improve on in terms of quality. But then, they bought, paid for and they can paint it anyway they want.

Don't forget Lt.Col. Ronnie Hay, Royal Marines. He scored 13 victories in the FAA, and five of these were in corsairs. The rest of his victories had been in Skuas and Fulmars. He's listed in Osprey's "Corsair Aces."

Sorry to stray off topic, but while we're talking about hypothetical paint schemes for Vintage Wings of Canada Aircraft... what's the plan for the Lysander? Leaving it in target tug or going for all black, or camo? I can't think of any other posibilities, but I'm sure someone can! Weather permitting I will be at the September open house, can't wait!

As for the Lizzie, I think they are thinking along the lines of a SOE scheme, but nothing has been said. Not much has been done with the Lysander since it arrived since they have been focused on the flying season.

As for the FG-1D I believe they want to have it at the open house, but no promises.

It would be nice to once again see a Fleet Air Arm Corsair in Lt Gray's markings roaming the skies of Canada.
