Looking for information on the Ju 88H

Sat Aug 04, 2007 12:04 pm

I'm looking for pictures and any other reference materials on the Junkers Ju 88H series. I have a bunch of plastic kits and conversions that I am starting on and I'm starting the research part of the projects. Any help would be great. I've googled and did other searches and I've only been able to come up with one picture. Thank you.

Interesting plane!

I couldn't find anything online either but this paragraph was in my "Axis Aircraft of WW2" book by David Monday:

Development of the basic JU88D reconnaissance aircraft resulted in the JU88H series, the prototype of which combined the wings and BMW engines of a JU88G-1 with the fuselage and tail of the JU-88D-1. 'Plugs' where inserted in the fuselage fore and aft of the wing, increasing its length by 10ft 8in (3.25m) to 57ft 10.75in (17.65m) With the additional fuel tanks that could now be carried the JU88H had a range of 3200 miles (5150 km). Ten Ju-88H-1 reconnaisance aircraft and 10 JU-88H-2 long-range fighters were built, the later with six forward firing 20mm MG 151 cannon in place of the Ju-88H-1's cameras and radar. Despite being built in such small numbers, these types saw action over the Atlantic.

Its no wonder pictures are hard to come by since so few were built. Based on that description this picture is most likly a Ju-88H-1. Good luck!
