Found this website showing many pictures of the B-24 languishing in a Tobruk, Libya police Compound.

Besides money & politics, what will it take to get her to reside in Dayton, OH in the near future? Its time to bring her home before there is nothig left.

Oooops. Serves me right. I go away a couple of days and become an uncle and didn't do my daily dose of WIX for 48 hours. Needed my fix this morning. A poxs upon me. Looks like I was on the same wavelength though without actually checking!

Anyway, does anybody know if LBG was built at Willow Run? If the Libyans gave it back, I think it should be displayed first at Willow Run and then room made in the NMUSAF. A fitting tribute to ALL involved in this planes storied life. Your thoughts?

I would love to see it go to Willow Run once their new building is up.

I doubt that plane will ever see the States again. We don't even have it in the registry...

I think she belongs in Libya sensitively displayed in her own exhibition.
To either rebuild her to static or to fly would mean loosing so much of her that she would cease to have any meaning .

I agree. I don't think that she should be rebuilt. I am just not sure if there is a future for her there.

There is money to be made from tourism in Libya - I think her time will come!

The LBG was not built at Willow Run..she's a B-24D-25-CO, meaning she was built at Consolidated's San Diego plant. In fact no B-24Ds were built at Willow Run. I'd have to check my references, but I believe the only "glass nose" Libs built by Ford were designated B-24Es, and all were assigned to stateside training units.

I'd love to see the Yankee Air Museum get a Ford-built B-24 (heck, ANY Lib would be fine) but unless an undiscovered airframe comes to light I think the Privateer is probably as close as they'll ever get.
