ROSS PEROT CF-5s?

Fri Jul 20, 2007 11:41 pm

I just heard that ROss PEROT bought a S#!T load of CF-5s for some contract work with UAE????? Thought ATSI was doing this stuff with A-4s. Not so sure that CDN CF-5s are anymore modern than the A-4s from IDF IMHO .... THose things have been sitting since 1995>

Any confirmation on this?

1) Unless something has changed, he was planning on buying Norwegian F-5s and having the avionics overhauled. Do you have some specific info about CF-5s that have been purchased?

2) ATSI is no longer in business, and when it was, it was operating not in accordance 14 CFR.

3) The F-5s were purchased in the company's business plan because the instructors are mostly all current/former USAF AT-38 instructors.

4) UAE is just the first contract. This business was hatched hand-in-hand with the USAF, and has a retired USAF O-6 operations officer, with the understanding that future lead-in-fighter training inquiries from foreign governments that were not specifically part of a FMS contract would be pushed their way.

It's actually Perot, Jr, that we're talking about. The one who all ready owns a T-38! :)

I heard something like 15 Dual seat aircraft, that were upgraded (avionics wise) to the CF-18 standard.

I could be wrong, but rumours always carry a hint of truth.

Yes... Perot Jr. He has one that flies and is painted at Thunderbird #1. Is hangared at either Alliance Airport or Love Field. I see it flying out of Alliance. He also flies his Stearman over to our little airport to do touch-n-goes.

Here is a pic of Perot's T-38 operating out of Alliance Ft. Worth.

That is a sharp looking aircraft.

Yep I heard the same thing. Ross Jr. bought a bunch of the upgrade CF-116s that were in store in Mountainview. These were the birds that the CAF paid big money to update to CF-18 avionics and then withdrew from service almost immediately.

Isn't the T-38 in the Museum now because there was some issue/trouble with it?

Actually 17 CF-5s. They are in the process of being shipped to the USA on flatbed trucks, and will soon be assembled to airworthy status. I looked at a few of them when I was in Trenton/Belleville (Mountainview) Ontario last week and they're essentially brand new and as close to perfect as any airplane I've ever seen. For now the owner is keeping further details close to the vest.

Any idea where they will be assembled? When I was asking around I heard a silly rumour that they were goign to be assembled in Michigan?????? seems odd if he is in Texas.

I'll post an update on assembly location and the disposition of the CF-5s as soon as I have the green light from the owner to do so.
