Anyone heard of an accident involving this Mustang?

Sun Jul 15, 2007 8:27 pm

Sounds like there was fatal accident with this aircraft. Still trying to find information.

Anyone?

Terrible news.
What I know is that the airplanes tail came down too fast causing the aircraft to go back in the air in a nose high situation.
Then there was a torque roll to the fatal outcome.
I never met the owner but he was fully checked out and he had 2 children.
My friend who knew him only said that he would of been a great asset to the Warbird community.

My condolensces to his family.

Flying these things can sometimes lead to a tough outcome.

I am responding as quickly as possible to inform those who care and avoid speculation.

Thanks

So very sad

Sun Jul 15, 2007 9:47 pm

to hear of this. It is sad for anyone to lose their life prematurely. But, it seems doubly so when it occurs so casually while occupied in a normal activity.

Deepest condolences to his family and friends.

May I ask what may be a delicate question? Why are no provisions made for rollover structures in many restorations? Harry Doan lost his life in a similar fashion in his AD-4 about 12 years ago, as I recall... it's an awful tragedy to lose a pilot, and it seems odd to me that more folks don't look at adding such a structure to their aircraft.

This is by no means an indictment of the pilot, God rest his soul, and I hope everyone understands that.

:( ...a very sad day for all his friends and family. RIP

The Mustang had a rollover structure installed in the form the of the armor plate in the cockpit. These were removed to enable access to the rear seat.

I don't think a roll over cage would have helped in this case, as Harry Doan nosed over where this was a little different situation. A sad day for all......

Very sad news indeed - the new owner was only in touch recently as he was very keen to find out about Lou IV's history.

My thoughts are with the pilot's friends and family.

Best regards
