Sun Jul 15, 2007 1:02 pm

Hello all,

I need assistance in finding technical information, images, and individuals who used the following radar systems. I'm in the process of writing a book.

SCR-720

AN/APS-4

AN/APS-6

AN/APG-3 tail gun laying radar

AN/APG-33 X-band fire control radar

AN/APG-28 Intercept radar

AN/APG-51 intercept radar

AN/APQ-35 intercept radar

Thanks,

Alan

Alan,

Ran across a few references:

SCR-720

http://www.history.navy.mil/library/online/radar-8.htm

SCR-720 parts

http://listserv.tempe.gov/admin/WA.EXE? ... D=0&P=1370

APS-4 manuals

http://navigator.rafmuseum.org/results. ... t&id=23104

APS-6

http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplore/login ... 464890.pdf
http://www.tpub.com/content/radar/TM-11 ... -10840.htm

For manuals on the SCR-720, might try the Signal Corps Museum at Ft Gordon.

Hello Alan,

You need to talk to Gene Whitt. He worked on radar in WWII and developed the radar simulator in WWII that used a water tank. He is a fascinating guy who recently went under surgery. Sadly the anesthesia messed up his brain and he is struggling to recover. I think that talking to you would be good therapy for him. He wants to share his knowledge with as many as possible.

His web site on radar is:

http://www.whittsflying.com/web/WWII_RADAR_HISTORY/index.htm

He also was a flight instructor extraordinaire and he has written down all of the amazing information that was in his head on this web site. If you or anyone wants to learn about flying this is the place to go:

http://www.whittsflying.com/web/page0Major_topic_headings.htm

I have a small collection of WWII radar gear and manuals and I will help if I can. I have several SCR-720 components as well as a nearly complete APQ-13. I also have the APS-13, SCR-718, APG-5 and APS-3 and 4 systems and components. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks,
Taigh

I looked at his website but can't find where to contact him.
I'd appreciate any help you can give.

Images of the components/systems and manual information for the SCR-720 and 4 systems would be great. Off course, if they're used in the book they will be cited.
