Did she just say that she enjoys the paintings on the sides of the warplanes? Interesting. I think that this was a pretty well done piece.

Warbirds as playthings for the rich?

Hmmm...

Oh great, now everyone will want one  :D

"with only 60 mustangs currently flying around the world" ... how can there be 100+ at Legends? ;)

Wed Jul 11, 2007 4:45 pm

approx 150 of the approx 250 airframes are flyable

Wed Jul 11, 2007 5:53 pm

There are about 300, IIRC.

What gets me is that they say they're rare. Compared to Fw's? There are about ten times as many Mustangs. They're probably the most common WWII fighter out there.

True but they are rare. Compared to a Cessna or a Piper that most see at an airport everyday.

I thought it was a great piece even though there minor errors such as the number flying. How often is the media willing to do a piece on warbirds that does not involve a crash or loss of life or property with major specultation, (usually inacurate). I say hooray to them for doing credit to the warbird community

Maybe she meant "only 60 Mustangs flying"...in the air at that particular moment in time!

Anyway they seem to be popular because the websites that I check regularly don't have any flying P-51's at the moment. (Courtesy Aircraft, Provenance Fighter Sales, Controller)
Only one project listed at Provenance.

Nice vid. But only 60 flying P-51's? More then that I thought.

Only thing I wished she would have included was that these machines are not just "pleasure" machines but also are a part of history where our greatest generation fought and died for our freedom.

Cheers,

:D At least it's POSITIVE!!!

IT could have easily gone like,"Ever wonder why Earth is getting hotter? It's all those muscle-plane rich kids in their CO2 spewing unsafe at ANY speed Mustangs!" :minigun:

I liked the art on the side too!

Ironic that I spoke with both of those pilots the other week at Binghamton.
