Cool shots, Thanks! 8)
Are those all Air Apaches; or is there a 3rd Attack shot snuck in there? I can't really tell.

Jack
Those pics are of the 405th the 823rd and 71st bomb groups, my dad has those same pics with about 5 thousand more. He flew as a tail gunner in
B-25s from 1942 to 1944 in New Guinea. His birthday is this month, 85 years young. He had over 80 missions.

I haven't looked them all up, but the while banded 25s are of the 500th BS 345th BG Rough Riders.

Jack
You are right about the white bands, one of the pics has a green dragon on the nose which is the 405th. The white banded ones are early b25s as there are no tail guns. The top turret was further back on the early ones with no tail guns.

It is the 345th Bg
but, if it ain't the 42nd BG who really cares  :?

It is hard to tell the 499th and 405th aircraft from head on shots but I have always been under the impression that skip bombing picture was the 405th bomb squadron at Wewak.

A lot of a/c just with shark's mouth were from the 3rd Attack also.

I think you are right Jack about the sharks mouth.
My dad was in the 405th and all of their planes had the green dragon, similar to a shark mouth looking from the front.
They did all the low level bombing at rabaul, wewak, and lae.
I will quiz him tonight. also I will find a pic of the green dragons.
I think he said that later on the 405th turned into the 823rd.
Thanks Jack I think you are more knowledgeable than I about the groups and squadrons. I am just going by what I remember my dad talking about them.
A group put together about 5000 pics from new guinea and the philipines.
My dad came home before the philipine campaign began. He was shot down off the coast of Lae in november 1943 behind enemy lines. Him and his crew that survived the crash hid from the japanese, and the natives help them to get back to base a month later. He was awarded the DFC.
