Sleeve valve engine information???

Thu Jun 28, 2007 3:09 pm

I've been looking on the internet and did a search in the WIX forum and have not found much information about the sleeve valve engines the Brits used to use. Anybody got a resource for info. I've got plenty of info on basic specs: bore , stroke, etc, even a diagram of the sleeve ports. Mainly, I'm interested in the sleeve barrel production method. I understand they went through some type of grinding process during production.

Hi Cubs,
Not sure if these texts will have the specific engine info you're looking for, but they're a great start. (And, I have the first book - it's excellent!)

Allied Aircraft Piston Engines of World War II: History and Development of Frontline Aircraft Piston Engines Produced by Great Britain and the United States by Graham White

British Piston Aero Engines by Alec Lumsden

Both are easily available from Amazon or other booksellers.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Mike
