Pilot to log: "Made successful landing". But I am not sure if the plane lost me or I lost the plane!"

Was this a bad landing, or was it battle damaged? It reminds me of that classic film of the hellcat hitting the island of the carrier, and breaking apart.

Same here but that Hellcat did not go over board. But the break up seems very simular as to the photo. Was there some kinda structural flaw in the Hellcat?

I don't think so. Aircraft aren't really built very sturdily in the first place. The place with the most structure would be the cockpit area and wing stem- forward to the engine. Behind the wing would be where the structure lightens up, and probably the first place to take the pressure of a crash is right at the joint there. So...snap!

So...snap!
It would really suck if that snap is where the pilot sat!
