We are finishing the rebuild of our L-5/OY-1 and they take a lot of work. We found that the wings required a complete regluing besides some wood repair. That in of itself took one member over two years to complete. The rest was pretty straight forward. Took more effort to get it close to being stock, had a lot of modifications to undo. The O-435-1 is a big money issue as it is the only engine you can hang on an L-5 and there are not that many left and parts take some researching and hunting. We hope to have ours flying again by the first of the year.

could you simply mold a new one from an old one's shell? I seem t remember an old guy in Baltimore doing that on his boat engine...it was so old you couldn't find one, so he just molded it and cast a new one...

The SOPA (Sentinel Owners group) is talking to a vendor and probably the Feds about producting a production run of new manufacture wing kits. What I suspect that they are going to produce it a kit that can be 337'd and built up by the individual and require minimum jiging....like a fastbuild RV wing kit. Basically set up the work table and fixture and start gluing and jiging parts.
