Tom Friedkin's freshly restored Mustang out of the very same shop should be based in the U.S., so it isn't a total loss!



Photo was taken a month ago, so if it isn't flying yet it should be soon.

Brandon, the D model is already back in Houston as we speak. I think it flew again about a week after the airshow.

Dumb question, but is that a TF conversion with the long canopy, but without the tall tail? Any idea why some TFs have the tall tail and some do not?

The original Temco TF-51 conversions had the short fin. The tall fin was a later Cavalier mod, which is supposed to give greater stability due to the air over the fin being disturbed due to passing around the larger canopy, IIRC. Some owners like the original fin, some prefer the later Cavalier fin.
