Three losses last week. Flags at half mast

They say Hollywood celebs die in threes. Warbird crashes seem to come in threes....Now it seems pilots and warbird people die by threes.
Col Jack A. Sims, Doolittle Raider. June 12.
Gen. Robin Olds, Triple ace , June 14.
And now Bob 'No Neck' West , airshow pyro shooter passed away last Saturday a.m. Reg. Urschler posted the info on No Neck to the Lone Star website today.
Flags at half mast, gang.

Not sure if you're being serious or just sentimental, but it takes an Executive Oder to bring the flags down. I know I'll probably be thought of as a hard-ass for saying that, but I can't help but feel that the protocol for lowering the flag seems to be misused too much these days.

I guess I'm being both. I also want to make some show of respect for some exceptinal people. I don't think you're being a hard-ass about it and I respect your opinion. Unfortunately I must agree with you about flag protocol being misused.

It is my understanding that the governor of each state has the authority to order the U.S. flag to be flown at half-mast in his or her state.

hmm. we flew our flag at half the day of my grandfather's funeral (WWI vet) I think it was appropriate, we didn't have a 'special order', but he was a vet, and a family member. Are you telling me that we were 'wrong' to do so?

Misused? Hell I feel that any vet has passed, that baby should be lowered to half mast. I do it, out of honor and respect for the flag for which they fought and the person which fought for the flag.

Any person that provides protection, or a freat cause to the country in honor of it, should have the flad lowered in their honor.

Not doing it, is misusing the flag. IMHO.

Wrong and inapropriate are two different things. Do I feel we should acknowledge the passing of every vet? Of course we should. Do I feel each should be afforded the flag at half-mast? Well, will it ever go back up if we do that?
