B-36 Crash

Sat Jun 16, 2007 1:09 am

The following is a "third-hand" e-mail recevied from our CAF SoCalWing PBJ Restoration Crew Chief. I do not know the history of this incident nor if it has previously been posted on WIX...just thought it may be interesting to some.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a classic story and fortunately this fellow told it before he, too, passed away. A neighbor of mine was a P&W flight test engineer who also served on board a B-36. His wife gave me his B-36 Flight Engineer's manual. It is huge as was the plane. This is a long story and there are several parts but it is told in a manner that most aviation minded folks will find it difficult to put down. It is a keeper!

Thank you for that Dave. Very somber and sobering. Hard to put into words what I am feeling now after reading that. May God bless all of our veterans and their families.

Does anybody know where on the field did they work on the B-36's?
We fly into there all the time and do spend a lot of time out there. To see and hear a B-36 take off on Rwy 9 and fly over the city would be a grand treat. We always land on 27.

TIA,

Lynn
