Best Corsair Picture Ever!!!!!!!!!

Fri Jun 15, 2007 8:44 am

Aug 14, 1945 2 F4U-1D Corsairs of VMF-122 #804 flown by 1Lt Don Wilson and #707 flown by 1Lt Gene Youngs are ready to taxi out from their base on Pelilu for a early morning CAP. Morning colors are played holding the Corsairs up for a short moment. In the middle of the patrol they are told to RTB and returned to a joyful crowd of Marines to hear that the war is over!!

Nice shot! This would make a nice painting or diorama.

Thanks Jack!

Mmmmmm....good photo, but I'll still go with the two air to airs I got from Mr Allnutt that are hanging on my wall (see his avatar) as the best Corsair pics I've ever seen....

And I still owe him Firefly prints in return...

That's a great photo! 8)
But, the difference is vintage vs. modern and posted vs unposed.
Sorta like Ted Turner colorizing all those classic B & W movies.
Nothing beats an original. :!: :!:

I can't even begin to imagine the elation those pilots must have felt to know that their last combat sortie of WWII was behind them.
