Importing foreign mechanics

Wed Jun 06, 2007 2:02 pm

Is this feasable at all?

Let's say youwant to import couple of certified mechanics form Estonia, who are current on the type concerned, would FAA recognize their practice, even though they would work independently from an Approved maintenance Organization kinnda deal?

The US FAA does not have a reciprocal agreement with Estonia. An FAA certified mech would have to release the aircraft for service.

The best way to handle it is to bring in your experienced troops on the type then hire a local A&P to work with them and let him supervise their work and do the signoffs.

You are covered for the FAA and there is no learning curve on type. Work should go pretty smoothly, quickly, and the guys you hire should already know anything that might be peculiar to look for. In the long run those points should equate to dollars saved.
