T-6 UFO

Tue Sep 21, 2004 10:44 pm

Here's another mystery T-6. It is based in the Twin Cities area and registered as N3012Y. The FAA lists the serial as 412223, the possibilites that occured to me for this are 41-2223 which is a P-38E and 44-12223 which is a P-51K. Does anybody have a lead on the cn or AAF or USN serial?

I can tell you this aircraft is owned by Skip Wipson, and was restored by Panama Jacks in Australia. It was sold through Courtesy about two years ago. Not sure about it's correct s/n. Gary Applebaum might have more to ad.... Jim

Hi Dan,
Think you might find that this T-6 is formerly FAP0107 of the Paraguayan Air Force. Haven't got a clue what the original American serial might be. Great bunch of guys over there at Panama's!

Cheers,
Matt

Here is what I have from WD4...

-> not original USAAF or USN ID noted
-> apparently this was built as an AT-6D
-> 0107 FAP
-> 0122 FAP
-> to open storage (by 1989)
-> N3171H (1991/9/19)
-> VH-YPY (1995/10)
-> N3012Y (2002/1/23)

Dan, I am sure that someone will appreciate this! :wink: :D

That's #106 which we had here in Salem before being sold with 4-5 other projects to the man with a suitcase full of $$$ in NZ. I may have some photos in one of the hangers will check. It looks better now. We still have #101 which by the way is for sale. Maybe the new WIX flagship????
Our Grand Pooh-Bah Jim bought that entire batch of Paraguian (sp??)
T-6s and a BT-13. It was sort of cool having all that stuff around. We're down to just a B-25, 3 T-6s and a pair of Hondurian F4U-4 wings.

Thanks guys.

For those of you who have ordered Warbirds Directory, how long did it take for you to get the order form?

Thu Sep 23, 2004 5:36 am

Dan:

I received my copy about a week after ordering it, but I paid for express delivery from the UK.

This is the data on the T-6 ownership, based at Flying Cloud (one of my favorite airfields, if for no other reason, for the great view you get downhill)

HI IVE HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THIS A/C, IT WENT THROUGH A MAJOR O/H BY PANAMA JACKS, AT WHICH TIME IT WAS REBUILT WITH MAJOR CHANGES TO THE HYD SYSTEM ,FUEL SYSTEM,OIL SYSTEM,AND LOTS OF SHEETMETAL REPLACEMENT.IT IS NO LONGER A STOCK T-6 BUT MORE OF A CUSTOMIZED EXAMPLE.WITH MILITARY O/HS AND THE CIVILIAN REBUILD ITS HARD TO SAY IF THE REAL IDENTITY WILL EVER BE KNOWN.THANKS MIKE

Thanks to Dr. Gary Kuhn in MN, and Lic. Tony Sapienza (in Paraguay), here is more on this T-6:

"According to the FAP official records, this T-6 was originally an
AT-6C-15-NT, c/n 88-14274, ex-USAAF 42-44371. It was delivered to Brazil (FAB) where it first received the serial 76 and later 1298. It was converted to T-6D in Brazil.

It was donated to the FAP in 1974 and it was serialled as 0127. It belonged to the ARA-SUNU Aerobatic Team (Airplane
N° 5). In 1980, it was reserialled as 0107. WFU in 1988. Sold in 1991 to become N3171H."
