First Warbird sighting of the year (finally!)

Tue May 22, 2007 12:22 pm

Timing is everything.

My office is located near the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, but I rarely get to hear/see anything since I'm tucked in the back away from the windows. Anyways, I was just walking out the door for my lunch break and thought I heard an engine noise similar to a Mustang. We're right on a busy street so it can be tough to distinguish the sounds but this one was definitely getting louder and coming from an airplane. So I start to scan the horizon by the airport and happen to see the CWH Lancaster climbing out from the airport and heading southeast. Looks like it's on the way to Republic airport for the week.

Thank God the first airshow is in a couple of weeks, because that definitely got me anxious to see more warbirds!

The incredible thing about that is only a week and a half ago if someone were to say the Lancaster was going to fly on May 22 many would have laughed as it was still in many pieces for it's annual. It allways amazes me how they get that beautiful aircraft back together in record time every year. Nice thing about living 5 min down the road from CWH is I get to hear and see it fly pretty much every time it goes!
