Mohawk Airlines DC-3 Lamplight

I am not sure where to post this so I placed it in both Vintage and here. I am looking for info on the DC-3 Lamplight that flew with Mohawk Airlines. After it's service it was bought by a few pilots, and that is about all I know.

my father also, is a "Hawker"..... small world. He was a Lead Mech. going all the way back to the Utica/Rome maint base until he retired with USAir. I'll have to see if he knows anything about the old DC-3 "Lamplighters".

The Mohawk service was known as the "Gaslight Service" from 1960 to 1962. Initially, a men only flight with beer, cigars and stewardesses in Gay '90s gowns, but popularity resulted in a family section added later.

Say Hi to Clair, I worked in Hangar #5 PIT for nearly 20 years until 2005 and I took an early out. We often talked about Old Rhinebeck and other vintage topics. Gary L.

Charlie Hrutkay, a Mechanic in Utica. I went on one of the Gas Light flights when I was a kid. Dad's first wrench twisting for MOH was on on of those DC-3s.

My friend Clair remembers Bill. He said he had a 195 with an all Fairchild panel at one time. And some gliders as well,

Hey Guys,

I know my father knows Bob Huddock. And the name of Mr. Hrutkay sounds familiar to even myself. My Father was a Lead in the Sheetmetal shop up in Utica till the Allegheny buyout then we moved to PIT, he was a Lead in the Engine shop till he went out on a bid to the Test Cell and stayed there till here retired, shortly after the big test cell was built in PIT. Ask your friends if they know a man named John "Bud" McGreal.

I think my dad is still active with some of the retiree stuff from the guys and fellow "Hawkers".

Thanks...I'll try to pass along some of this info to my Dad to see if he knows any other names. Also....FYI, if I can find it (and I have it bookmarked somewhere) I have found a website that is based around Mohawk and the guys who were up there. Also, I found some old 35mm slides of my fathers, from his military service and Mohawk time, and I had them converted over to jpg's from a photo lab. If I can find the disk, feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to send over some pic's. Or, if you want I can try to post them here.

Also, my mother did a photo disk for me of some Mohawk stuff that I guess my Dad had just collecting dust in an old shoebox. While I don't think he is the one who took the shots, some are pretty cool.

For myself, I followed in my Dad's footsteps. I started in the airlines with Capital Airlines (charter airline), went to Republic (GREAT Airline...LONG LIVE HERMAN ) in 1984, and ended with Northworst in August 2005.

I met Bill Dahler this year at Sun n Fun, He was admiring my friends Beech 18 and reminiscing with some good old stories of his freight and time building days. He invited us to come over and see the DC-3 that he flew down from New York if we like. Well come to find out that He had been friends with Bob Sussey (IIRC Who also was a Mohawk Mechanic in Utica) the father of one of my good friend and coworkers Gary.
