B-17 "Quityorbitchin"

I know there was a B-17 with this name but cant find any photos of it in my vast library! Can somebody direct me to a place to find it or post a picture? Also what group was she with? Was there any nose art or just the name? Thanks.

Steve, I know Ive seen something somewhere on that a/c. I will see if I cant check some reference stuff back at the house.

One of my neighbors when I was growing up was the pilot of a B-17 named "Kwitcherbitchen" (not sure of the spelling). They flew from Italy with the 15th Air Force and the aircraft was in NMF. Kip died recently and never talked much about his wartime service, and I have not approached his family yet to collect information. I believe they may have some photos taken in theatre, and will someday soon ask if I can visit with them about this. He did tell one story about being at Sioux City AAF, getting a brand-new B-17G, flying sixty miles to his folks's farm and buzzing the neighborhood for a while with his new ride. Boys will be boys!

There was also a "Kwiturbitchin", name only, a B-17G in a book I've got at home. Will try to dig further details out tonight. I like the name so much I named a boat after it!

Steve, here's a pic of Douglas-built 44-6684 that Reamerb17 mentioned above. Some of the details are a bit different. Sorry for the pic, my scanner is on the blink (got rid of Vista and went back to XP!).

Hi Andy, I would only assume being a low serial #. I went and checked out the 91st website, its HUGE! But no pic's of "Quitcherbitchin" on there.
Anything U have would be great! I also ordered two books about the group, "Plane names & fancy noses" the other being " The ragged irregulars of bassingbourn", so maybe they might have something?Thanks.

That Ragged Irregulars book should have something. I've been consulting my Fortresses of the Big Triangle First book and she is mentioned several times. She was one of the first ten B-17s of the group to be sent back to the US. I got the impression she was one of the originals. I do have a pic of her sister ship which has the serial number before her. There is also a note that your bird was badly damaged on one raid. That's all off the top of my head. Will post in detail from home.
