UK Fury FB.11 G-CBEL - recent flight - 12 images

Following high winds two weeks ago, John Bradshaw re-scheduled his monthly flight in Hawker Fury G-CBEL to Saturday (14th April)

Blue skies and a light breeze welcomed me as I arrived at Bournemouth Airport.
There's nothing better than the sound of a Centaurus (well there is, two Centaurus'!)...

Start-up...

Fury airborne (bloody wind-sock!)

I intended to use the Fury as my main subject for experimenting with different shutter speeds, with the ultimate aim of getting different amounts of prop blur.
Beginning with an image shot using 1/125 second TV mode...

The next two were shot at 1/45 second...

1/30 second shutter speed, using the 'care and maintenance' Canon D30 - I can't believe it!

With the flight done and dusted, the Fury is put to bed...

Huge thanks must of course go to John Bradshaw and to all the crew for making the flight happen today!

Great photos! Many thanks for posting. It's good to see a Fury with a real engine and prop for a change!

Nice shots. Thanks for the info on shutter speeds. Mike Shreve has helped me with adjusting my shutter speeds to capture propeller blur in my "in-flight" shots. Were you able to get any crisp inflight "panning" shots and retain the prop blur?

G-CBEL usually gets flown every four weeks by its owner, dependant on the usual factors. I imagine the operating costs are quite high, and as it stands there's no airshow income to supplement them.

Unfortunately not Mudge - those two posted were the only decent shots I have of the take-off run. I'll keep trying though

Beautiful shots - thanks for posting!

I have a Canon 20D, and I absolutely love it for it's versatility, from shooting excellent images of my art for my site to fast action, so I can imagine how wonderful the 30D must be. I'm nearing 7,000 shutter cycles of the 20D's ~50,000-cycle life. I figure by the time my camera wears out, I'll be looking for the 50 or 60D! :lol:

Woah woah woah.... what kinda paint job is that? I love the colour, BUT....

Why does it have Canadian, Australian, British, and Czech Rondels on it? That's confusing...

Does anybody have a story to go along with all the nationalities displayed on it? Or am I the only one that noticed it?

Daveymac- first of all they're not Czech rondels; The rondels on there are Canada, Australia, Netherlands, and Britain. Secondly all of the rondels are from countries that flew the Sea Fury at some point. The overall blue scheme was worn by Dutch Sea Furies (Kon Marine), and the owner just replaced some of the Dutch rondels with those from other countries that flew the Sea Fury. If you like, look it up in Squaron Signal's book on the Sea Fury, there are some good references in there. I think the paint scheme is actually one of the better ones on a Sea Fury these days.

no no, I do really like it... it looks beautiful, I was just confused when I saw all the different rondels and wanted to know the story behind it.

Sorry about the mistake of the Dutch rondel. I couldn't see the whole thing so just guessed that it was Czech.
