References Needed for Military Bases, Units and Aircraft

Can someone suggest a book, or books, or a reference guide for military bases, units assigned to bases, and type of aircraft assigned to each base? Is there a good source that might have US Navy bases, Air Force bases, WWII, post WWII, etc? I am particularly interested in Naval Air Stations, WWII, and through the Cold War, (especially any to do with the F4U Corsair). Thanks for any help!

I would HIGHLY recommend the following:

United States Naval Air Stations of World War II, Volume 1 - Eastern States - ISBN 0-9643388-0-7

United States Naval Air Stations of World War II, Volume 2 - Western States - ISBN 0-9643388-1-5

United States Marine Corps Air Stations of World War II - ISBN 0-9643388-2-3

All three are by M.L. (Mel) Shettle, Jr. and published by Schaertel Publishing Co., P.O. Box 66, Bowersville, Georgia 30516. I don't know if that address is still valid, but you have the ISBN.

A few years ago, I personnally contacted Mel (can't remember if by website or e-mail) and he sent me an autographed book of each volume. They have excellent photos of what the Air Stations looked like during the war plus some good descriptions of the base; and on some what they were put to use as after the war. There are also numerous photos of aircraft types and a general listing of the units assigned to each base. Just keep in mind that these are only U.S. Naval/Marine WWII airfields, not any from the USAAF or ETO or PTO - But they are an excellent source of reference.
