TV program on pacific wrecks the other day

It was on PBS. I think it was called Wrecks of the Coral Sea. Did a lot of talking about the sea life that lives on these old plane and ship wrecks. Had some good shots of a Japanese airfeild with planes still on there. Naturally all the trees are grown up around them now.

Seen it a couple of times now. I always love the part about the attack on Truk.
They make it sound like they (the poor Japanese) never had a chance... sniff, sniff. Reading The Big E (one of the finest carrier books ever written) The AAA was fierce.
And of course they were ONLY transports, which BTW have the ordinance leaching out contaminating the lagoon... HELL MAKE IT THE WHOLE DARNED PLANET! :roll:

And the part about the brain corral eventually destroying the Dauntless makes me want to go demonstrate at a PETA mtg. with a sign...

Just curious if any explorers like Dr. Robert Ballard have ever found and explored the wreck of the Lexington which sank during the battle of the Coral Sea?

This ship always fascinated me as a kid for some reason and I can remember reading countless books on the battles of Midway and the Coral Sea.

No, no one has yet located the Lady Lex in her resting place. It would be a fascinating sight to see, that's for sure.

Nathan - Is the Japanese airfield with the planes still on it in Borneo? Thats the only place I've heard that an airfield with lots of their planes still exists.
