Speaking of Movies, who is this guy? and Which Airplane?

From "Empire of the Sun"

So is this fellow flying the Mustang a Wixer? Who is he and which airplane is he flying?

Edit...I answered my own question with a little Google search...Is this Ray or Mark Hanna? Still don't know which airplane it is.

This a great scene.

That is the late Ray Hanna and it was filmed in Spain.

I think the airfield sequences were shot at Tablada AFB - could be wrong, however.

I found the plane with Google.
It is supposed to be 44-63788 (mustangsmustangs & warbirdregistry) according to this website.
There are two other Mustangs listed that participated in Empire Of The Sun.

Google also found me an older WIX topic with the answer:

The late Mark Hanna wrote a great article about the filming for us at Warbirds Worldwide. Can't recall which issue (anyone) but well worth seeking out - if you can get it.

Good guess on the airfield, but Tablada is too built up around the former airfield.
I believe the location of the prision camp and Japanese Airfield was Trebujena, Cádiz, Andalucía, Spain.

When I had it on VHS, I would fast forward to 1916 on the counter and watch the airshow. Now I'm going to watch it again on DVD...

It was issue no 2, James.Incidentally the first WW I ever bought, I was hooked from then on! :wink:
The Mustang was 44-73149, the civil reg was G-PSID,owned at the time by Doug Arnold.

My local spotters society have made a page called archives to show visitors to our local airfield is past years.
So I can see what I've been missing the last decades :( , and I found this picture, still in Tugboat colors.

No, I afraid it's not an L-5. I forget the exact designation, but I seem to recall that it is actually a post-war Italian bird.
Anybody out there help with the ID?
