Oregon Locator

Wed Jan 17, 2007 4:08 pm

I have taken the Oregon Locator as far as I can. Here it is...
http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/Locator.html#USA_OR

There are too many "Need Help" items to note here. I'll let you check them out in the Locator. There are a few items I did not put in Locator since I don't have a locator to start with. Here they are...

#1: Is there an Erickson Air Museum? Do they have an A-26, an AD Skyraider and an A-24 in the collection? If so where are they located?

#2: Is there a F8U/F-8 in McMinnville?

#3: Are there any aircraft on display at the Evergreen Airline Corporate Headquarters in McMinnville? If so what are they and what are they?

#4: Is there something known as the "Merle H. Maine Collection" at the Ontario Airport in Ontario? Does the collection include a F-86? Are there other aircraft in the collection? Where is this location"?

If you have any corrections or information to add please let me know. You can post here, or use the submission form...

http://www.aerialvisuals.ca/LocatorForm.html

...I will be out of town tomorrow, but will be back on Friday and will answer any replies then.

TIA

Mike

P.S. Next... California (revisited), New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana...

Mike, The Erickson Air Museum is actually the Tillamook Air Museum www.tillamookair.com Their website does show an A-26, an AD Skyraider and a SBD (A-24) in the collection.

Where is this location"?

It is indeed, at the Ontario Airport as you already mentioned:

44.0222 N
117.01030 W

This link will show the aircraft that I was able to see:

http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/p ... ht=ontario

I was told that there are plans to integrate all of these aircraft into a museum; there were closed hangars with aircraft, that I did not get to see.

Undergoing restoration for static display, there were an F-86 and an A-4.

My visit took place in either March or April, 2006

Tulio

Thanks Tulio. I have added the correction.

From the other thread...

Tulio wrote:Just before Ontario, and still in Idaho, on I-84 exit 3, there is a guy who has a military surplus vehicle business, and has a Bell OH-58 Kiowa mounted atop a flatbed trailer.

Can you tell me more about this one? There are no exit numbers indicated on Google Earth.

Here is what is remaining from my original list...

#2: Is there a F8U/F-8 in McMinnville?

#3: Are there any aircraft on display at the Evergreen Airline Corporate Headquarters in McMinnville? If so what are they and what are they?

Here are some additional items...

#5: Is there an F-86 in Astoria? If so where?

#6: Is there a T-33 at the Baker Municipal Airport in Baker City?

#7: Is there a Beaverton Airfield? If so is a FJ Fury displayed there?

#8: Is there an OV-1 in the collection of the Oregon Military Museum in Clackamas?

#9: Is there a F-86 in Corvallis?

#10: Is there a F-86 in Nyssa?

#11: Is there a T-33 or a second F-4 at the Portland International Airport?

#12: Does the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry in Portland have a C-47 and F-102 in the collection?

#13: Is there a T-33 in Woodburn (Salem)?

#14: Is there a F-86 in Troutdale?

#15: Is there any F-86s in Vale?

Now, there are at least three F-86s at the Ontario Airport:

re: #10: Is there a F-86 in Nyssa?

I went to Nyssa in Sept. 2006, looking for the F-86, and I did not find it. Either it is not there anymore, or I did not do a thorough search.

Nyssa is a very small town, and even when I asked some of the locals, no one of those I asked, seemed to recall the airplane.

Got it. There is a new entry for Fruitland. If you don't mind when you have a chance please check to see how I did with the map location.

OK. I added an entry.

Is there a F-15 at the museum, or is the F-15 actually the one displayed in front of the HQ?

The remaining questions are...

#5: Is there an F-86 in Astoria? If so where?

#6: Is there a T-33 at the Baker Municipal Airport in Baker City?

Thanks for knocking them down everyone!

The F-15 is not at the museum. t's also not in front of HQ. HQ is a 3 building complex. The F-15 is just to the east across the in a small memorial park dedicated to Mike Smith & Rory Draegger.
Mr Smith's office is in the corner of the first building and it was placed there so he could see it from his desk.

The satellite images for Google Earth/Maps are very poor in the area. Here is just a guess...

Which way should I move the pointer?

Mike:

The location for Fruitland, ID is right. Where you have the marker on your map, is the approximate entrance to the business. The helicopter should be somewhere near the arrow that appears on the bottom (R) of the map.

Yup, the entry for Nyssa is fine with me.

Will keep on looking for other aircraft for you.
