Spitfire Mk22 PK624 Resurfaces

On Sunday, the Fighter Collection brought PK624 out of storage, where she's been for the best part of ten years. I was lucky enough to be there at the right time, thanks to all at TFC for letting me get the photos. Thanks for the pics- a quick check of The Bible shows she only served with one operational squadron, 614 Squadron starting in August 48. I hope these are colors she'll be wearing when she's done.

It's interesting to see the evolution of the Spitfire from the Mark I to the Mark XXII. IIRC, top speed on the Mark Is was around 355 mph, and the later Mark XXII were well past 450.

The Mark XXII always had a place in my hears as one of the very first, if not the first, model airplanes I built as a young boy was a 1/72 scale Mark XXII Spitfire. I can't remember the manufacturer, but it was molded in translucent white plastic, as if it was supposed to glow in the dark, but it didn't. It eventually succumbed to "flak damage" as many of my models did.
