Thu Aug 19, 2004 1:18 pm

Does anyone have anything to add to this article I just came across? It says it is going to be exhibited as it was found?

A most interesting twist...

Also note that a photo of her at Pensacola has been posted on the Flypast forum.

From what I have read that wasn't a "legal" recovery from the Russian standpoint, Correct? I get the impression of a double standard in which the Navy went about getting this a/c if in fact it was recovered for them. But I guess the navy also made sure that it didn't get it's hands dirty on this, did they?

Maybe they just got lucky in getting it after someone found it, I don't know.

Looks like it will be preserved in the colours as found....great idea ! :)

Thanks for the update and clarifications. I think you will find the Russians are far more concerned about getting their original Yak-3 back that was 'loaned' to the MOF, than they are the Brewster.

Since Borris Yeltsin actually signed off on the export order for this aircraft (the Buffalo) to leave Russia, I hardly think that there is any legitimate claim by the Russians to ownership. They have a very strong case from what I have read when it comes to the Yak-3 however. Perhaps the complaints about the Brewster are merely a method for raising US government attention, and action, with regards to the Yak.

Certainly a possibility , although why the Russians are taking an indirect route through the Brewster seems a bit odd. I do know that the Ministry of Culture is considering what form of appeal is to be made regarding the Yeremin Yak. They are not looking at a 'heavy handed ' approach and would like to enter into dialogue and view the papers that MOF have regarding the export of the aircraft for the loan period. So far niether them or I have had any success in opening that dialogue. It certainly needs to be addressed....imagine the outcry in the U.S. if Bongs' P-38 was loaned for a few years and then not returned ;-0
