Warbirds Over Wanaka 2004 DVD

Thu Aug 19, 2004 6:23 am

Just watched the DVD of this years Warbirds Over Wanaka.

It's excellent! There is a lot of air-to-air footage. A lot of the air-to-air stuff was shot from a helicoptor, and includes much of the actual display flying. You get shots from above of the planes taxiing, then they take off toward the hovering chopper and either break to go around it or fly underneath it.

There is some cockpit footage of Ray Hanna getting a bump as he flys through the chopper's downwash

The commentary is fairly minimal, just the way I like it.
I hope the book is as good.

Cheers,

Brett

What are the shots of the Spit and Sopwith Camel flying together like...?I saw them late one afternoon after the show was over flying together with a chopper keeping station..the Spit was struggling to keep up

Dave,

The Camel and Spitfire have their own chapters, and in the Camel chapter there is 2 and a half minutes of the Camel/Spitfire formation.

The Camel formates off the chopper, and then the Spit formates off the Camel. Then you get a lot of overhead shots, including from above and behind.

Cheers,

Brett
