Reno Air Races

I'm currently trying to think up an idea for a story about the Reno air races, and am looking for info about pilots or aircraft, and in particular what one needs to do in order to race (training etc).

If anyone can point me in the general direction of some good info (websites, books etc), that'd be a great help.

Try pylon1.com or airrace.com for starters; and there are lots of anecdotes in John Tegler's book "Gentlemen You Have A Race".
